West
Coast rap veteran Ice Cube has once again pushed back the release date for his
upcoming I Am The West album to late September.
Announcing its new release on his blog, Cube also promised to release new music
as the date approaches.
"Mark it on your calender," he wrote July 15th. "Sept. 28th
is the new release date for I AM THE WEST. But I "m still droppin " song after
song so look for "Drink the Kool-Aid" later this month. I want to
give you the song wit visuals." (Ice Cube "s Blog)
Recent reports show that the follow-up to 2008 "s Raw Footage was previously
delayed to September 24th.
Ice Cube "s first album in two years, I Am The West will no longer be a summer
release. The N.W.A. alum "s latest solo offering has appeared to have moved to
September 24. The release is coming courtesy of Cube "s own Lench Mob Records,
also home to his Westside Connection partner, WC. (Hip Hop DX)
He recently revealed the underlying themes behind featured songs "Man
vs. Machine" and "Hood Robbin."
"[ "Man Vs. Machine "] is talking about our obsessions with machinery and
how it "s taking over," he said in an interview. "Automation is taking
over human beings in all our relevancy in this world. Pretty soon, machines
are gonna take over and that "s just real...[ "Hood Robbin "] is talking about
how big corporations is now stealing from the poor and giving to the rich. It "s
a whole thing about the things we "re going up against with housing and medical
insurance ... just everything people are going through. Real sh** that ain "t
got nothing to do with money, cars, [and] all the sh** most rappers talk about."

Last March, Cube wrote on his blog and discussed his reunion with ex-N.W.A.
member Dr. Dre.
"It "s a f*ckin " banger," Cube wrote in a blog posting. "This
one might be too West Coast for the West Coast. It "s getting mastered as we
speak. You "ll be able to hear it and buy it first right here on icecube.com.
We shoot the video on the 17th. I would give you guys the concept but I "mma
save that and let you see it for yourself. Now I know it seems like my record
is West Coast crazy...yeah it is. But I got a lot of real shit to say on this
record just like I always do. So my political fans won "t be disappointed. But
sometime the Big Dog gotta piss on a few trees to let these puppies know what
it is. They can "t f*ck wit me lyrically or physically. They all talks sh*t from
a distance cause they know, I may do comedies but I ain "t no joke...Now, I wanna
answer a few questions you have for ya " boy... Beats by Dre? Not yet. Haven "t
asked him, but I will. Any collabos? Not yet." (Ice Cube "s Blog)
