Kangol of UTFO Spearheads Drive To Raise Money For Breast Cancer
A number of hip-hop legends will gather in Harlem, New York
tomorrow (October 12) to raise money to help find a cure for breast cancer.
UTFO’s Kangol Kid is spearheading the “Waiters
& Waitresses” event being held at Doug E. Fresh’s Chicken
& Waffles tomorrow.
“For over 30 years, Hip-Hop has bred and influenced a
league of super heroes and leaders in the entertainment industry,” Kangol
Kid told AllHipHop.com. “I for one believe that ‘with great powers
come great responsibilities.’ As rappers we’ve always been recognized
as the ‘News Anchors’ for the streets. Therefore, it is our responsibility
to bring awareness like anchors while saving lives like super heroes.”
The fundraising effort that will legendary artists, executives
and others, serving of food to patrons.
Confirmed artists include Kangol Kid, Doug E. Fresh, Roxanne
Shante, Nikki D., Dana Dane, Rahiem of the Furious 5, Bowlegged Lou of Full
Force, Milk Dee of Audio Two, Freedom Williams of C&C Music Factory, Lady
Luck, Mike
C. of The Fearless 4, Joe Ski Love and others
The event is part of the “Mama Luke Movement” that
aims to raise awareness about breast cancer within the Hip-Hop community.
Kangol formed the organization with film exec Shaunda Lumpkin,
after her mother Gay Frances Lucas passed away from breast cancer in May of
2010.
“This male dominated art form has been accused of degrading
women for decades through songs and videos,” Kangol Kid told AllHipHop.com.
“Those same male pioneers are today’s husbands to wives and fathers
to daughters. As us men become better with time, the Mama Luke Movement Breast
Cancer Fight becomes an answered invitation for Hip-Hop to show our women…we
care.”
