BERKELEY, CALIF., 5/25/2011, Canibus follows up his critically
acclaimed work on ‘C Of Tranquility’ and precedes the much anticipated
release ‘Lyrical Law’ with a fiery feature addressing hate and revenge
on ‘Black Steven Speaks’ off of the critically acclaimed globally
conscious hip-hop album ‘Carbon Cycle Diaries’ by Professor A.L.I.
The track samples several news clips related to Islamophobia as well as hate,
which is then followed by verses from both Professor A.L.I. and Canibus who
proceed to lyrically lacerate haters of all kinds. The video attached to the
song makes the connections between the Islamophobia and how that hatred extends
into Hip-Hop as Hip-Hop is rooted in the Islamic influenced Griots of West Africa.

Canibus not only refers to the past offenses directed towards him, but speaks
to the hive mentality which controls mass behavior which attacks Hip-Hop itself,
not just its historic roots. In the end Canibus discusses how he wants to build,
and his presence on the track with up and coming artist Professor A.L.I. speaks
to that goal itself.
Professor A.L.I. is a Bay Area-based MC and Muslim, who engages a darker side
of himself who he refers to as Black Steven in this song. ‘Black Steven
Speaks’ is a vent at the hate that Professor A.L.I. feels as a Muslim
as well as being a part of the Hip-Hop movement. The song accesses dark imagery
at times to showcase how the climate of hate produces rage in an individual.
The song itself made the top 15 in new releases on iTunes this past week and
continues to be the most popular track off of a star studded feature list from
the ‘Carbon Cycle Diaries’ which also features Raekwon, E-40, Brand
Nubian and Killah Priest.
