Joe Budden recently opened up about his decision to revamp his Mood Muzik mixtape
series with a forthcoming fourth edition to the underground collection.
Despite having maintained his brand through a series (which began in 2004),
Budden feels the fans have ultimately fueled his motivation.
"I have a lot of fans that are real interested to hear it," Budden
said about Mood Muzik 4. "It "s three years in the making. The advantage
that mixtapes have over actual retail albums is that you are able to do so much
more as far as creative control. If you are inspired by another artist "s beat
you are able to put your own twist on it. I "ve always been attracted to that.
The concept of Mood Muzik itself derives from needing an outlet and trying to
cut the record label out the middle to deliver directly to the fans. The fans
gravitate towards [that way of releasing music]." (VIBE)
Writing via Twitter, Budden recently said his project would feature singer
Marsha Ambrosius.
"Very excited about featuring @marshaAmbrosius on #MM4 ... been a big
fan 4 quite some time. #SheRocks," he wrote Wednesday (August 18).
"I won "t lie 2 y "all ... i just met a producer who may have just changed
the ENTIRE landscape of #MM4 >>>>> @davidpinks !! you "ll see."
"& no, that doesn "t mean #MM4 will be pushed back. lol." (Joe
Budden "s Twitter)
In 2008, Budden told SOHH he had planned on replacing the series " host, DJ
On Point.
"Me and him have agreed to disagree on certain things," he revealed.
"We "re in the early stages, like [choosing a DJ] is one of the furthest
things from my mind. We still in to the recording process. I "ve already started
it and then I kinda just stopped to do some other things like I finished Padded
Room." (SOHH)
Budden began his popular mixtape run roughly six years ago.
The first Mood Muzik, Mood Muzik: The Worst Of Joe Budden, hit in 2004. The
second, Mood Muzik 2: Can It Get Any Worse?, largely regarded as the best in
the series, came out in 2006. Mood Muzik 3: The Album hit stores in February
of 2008 after being released in 2007 as a mixtape titled Mood Muzik 3: For Better
or for Worse. (All Hip Hop)
