The Roots and Elvis Costello have teamed up for a full-length collaborative album, as mentioned in February. The album, titled Wise Up Ghost, will be out September 17 via Blue Note Records.

The recording sessions mostly "took place in secret" during "the dead of night," according to a press release. ?uestlove, who produced with Costello and Roots engineer Steven Mandel, noted, "I went stark and dark on the music, Elvis went HAM on some ole Ezra Pound shit." It began as a single for Record Store Day and blossomed into a full LP.

The album also features a vocal contribution from La Marisoul of L.A. band La Santa Cecilia on a track called "Cinco Minutos Con Vos".

The press release included the following lines (presumably lyrics) without context. Update: They "re the lyrics to Costello "s 2004 track "Bedlam".

The solitary star announcing vacancy burnt out as we arrived
They "d throw us back across the border if they knew that we survived
