The Furious 5 is Back!

Hip-Hop’s Legendary Group The Furious 5 Makes Triumphant Return To The Scene Highlighted by 35th Year Reunion Shows at New York City’s B.B. King’s Club and Washington, DC’s Howard Theater

(New York, NY)…….Back to write their next chapter of hip-hop history, legendary emcees The Furious 5 are slated to return to the fold with two long-anticipated shows, at New York City’s famed B.B. King’s Club on Saturday, July 6, 2013 and at Washington, DC’s famed Howard Theater on Friday, July 5, 2013.

These shows will celebrate the trailblazing group’s illustrious 35th year in the business. Formed in the Boogie Down Bronx as Grandmaster Flash and The Furious 5, four of the original emcees (group member Cowboy passed away in 1989) will hit the stage and remind the audience of the reasons why they’re in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, have won Grammy Awards, have a song (“The Message”) in the Smithsonian Institute and in the archives of the Library of Congress, among their plethora of groundbreaking achievements. The Glover siblings, better known as The Kidd Creole and Mele Mel, along with Rahiem and Scorpio, will blaze the stage as only they can, with memorable hits such as “Freedom,” “The Message,” “White Lines,” Superrappin,” “Beat Street,” “New York, New York,” “Survival,” “Scorpio” and “Birthday Party.”

Widely known as The Voices and The Cornerstone of Hip-Hop, the collective was instrumental in the creation of the subculture called hip-hop, also pioneering the call and response technique in rap, which is now a staple in live hip-hop performances. Also, their recordings are among the most sampled in the history of recorded hip-hop.

The prolific group, which was the first to endorse a political candidate with the song “Jesse” (1984) and the first to inject social commentary into rap with the genre changing/consciousness raising aforementioned song, “The Message” (1982), has put an indelible, permanent mark on the genre of rap and hip-hop. These unforgettable, entertaining emcees are ready to create more milestones for their next chapter in hip-hop’s History Book.
