Ice-T Directorial Debut Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap

A new documentary co-directed by Ice-T called Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap will be screening at this weekend"s annual Sundance Film Festival. Billboard interviewed the veteran rapper/actor about the film, which delves into the artistry behind writing rhymes.

"I was looking at the terrain of hip-hop and where it"s going,” "A lot of the kids don"t even know where it started, and I said, "I wanna go and document the craft--not the money, not the cars, not the girls, the craft.""

He also added, “I"ve been doing interviews for rap for 20 years and know one ever asked us how we do it. They talk about the music but they don"t go, ‘How do you write a rhyme?"”

For the film, Ice T interviewed 54 “masters” of rap including Raekwon, Grandmaster Caz, Chuck D and Big Daddy Kane. Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap is his directorial debut and “is a movie for anyone that"s curious about the art,” he stated. “It"s not for a rap hater, though.”
