Run-DMC has announced the largest collaboration in the history of the group, with the launch of a new official line of apparel.
Over the years, the group’s iconic logo has been co-opted by fans (and bootleggers) and flipped into a variety of sayings, slogans and messages.
Now, the group will do the same with their own registered trademark in an official capacity through a new deal with Fanatics, a global leader for officially licensed sports merchandise.
The “RUN-CTY” line will combine their love for music, fashion and sports with licensed apparel featuring the group’s legendary logo.
“It’s cool to have the RUN-DMC logo be part of this special collection,” said Darryl “DMC” McDaniels. “I like having the spirit of our music history tied into the passion of sports fans around the world.”
Fanatics has already helped the group land deal with multiple teams from a variety of professional league with the city incorporated.
Fans of teams can now sport official the group’s official line, which will offer shirts featuring the group’s logo flipped for the local franchises.
For instance, fans can grab merch with saying like RUN-CHI, RUN-CLE, RUN-OKC, etc. T-shirts, hats and other merchandise is now available through men, women and youth sizes.
Run-DMC and their team were involved in the design process from start to finish, to ensure the image of the brand did not become watered down.
“We’ve worked very closely with the RUN-DMC team to make sure we captured the essence of their iconic brand throughout all of the gear in this line,” said Raphael Peck, president of Fanatics Branded.

A larger rollout is expected to happen around the world in 2017.
