A week and a half into De La Soul‘s And The Anonymous Nobody campaign, celebrations are in order. With their first album in 12 years, the formative trio has hit the top of the Billboard rap album charts. Crowdsourced and independently released, And The Anonymous Nobody is the fruit of the second highest grossing Kickstarter campaign in the site’s history, garnering over $600,000 in incentivized donations, making this an album for the people, funded by the people.

The LP also landed the No. 2 spot on Billboard’s Independent Albums chart as well as the No. 12 spot on Billboard’s Hot 200 chart.

Since its release on Aug. 26, it’s received rave reviews. Jill Scott, Snoop Dogg, Pete Rock, Estelle, 2 Chainz, Little Dragon, Usher and more are just some of the artists featured on their latest LP that relies on live instruments.

“We have always been into every mindset of hip-hop culture, but we always listen first to who we are and how we were raised when it came time for us to put out music,” said Posdnuos.

The crew denies that there will ever be a De La Soul biopic (not enough controversy), though a documentary is on the way.

“I’m not sure if the ‘sex, drugs and violence’ part of our story is interesting enough,” said Pos. “But the sacrifices that we made by losing time with family while trying to figure out the riddle to stay relevant throughout our career, as well as showing the fight to not allow ourselves to be erased from history due to none of our albums that we put out on Tommy Boy being for sale in this digital age, would be great to see.”
