A decade after Missy Elliott last reached the top 10 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs as a lead act on a track, the rapper returns as “WTF (Where They From),” featuringPharrell Williams, soars 33-8 (on the chart dated Dec. 5). The single also vaults 91-22 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The last time she achieved a top 10 hit as a lead artist on a song was in 2005, when Elliott peaked at No. 6 with “Lose Control,” featuring Ciara & Fat Man Scoop, from her previous studio album The Cookbook (which has sold 657,000 copies to date, according to Nielsen Music). After “Lose Control,” Elliott hit the top 10 twice as a featured act: on Keyshia Cole’s “Let It Go” (No. 1 in 2007) and J. Cole’s “Nobody’s Perfect” (No. 3 in 2012).

‘WTF' takes both Streaming Gainer and Digital Gainer honors on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, with the audio and video for the track amassing a combined 6.1 million U.S. streams during the most recent tracking week (ending Nov. 19, up 101 percent). The song is accompanied by a flashy, dance-heavy music video (released Nov. 12), reminiscent of Elliott’s older clips -- complete with elaborate wardrobe styling and Pharrell making his cameo as a puppet. Of the total weekly streams contributing to the chart, 67 percent stem from YouTube views.

A 294 percent rise in digital sales, to 69,000 downloads, also helps to hurl the song towards the top of the chart.

'WTF' initially debuted at No. 33 (Nov. 28) from partial-week sales, radio and streaming data.

Overall, Elliott has logged 13 top 10s on the chart – five of which were as a featured act.

She first landed on the list -- peaking at No. 14 -- in February, following her surprise appearance at the NFL Super Bowl XLIX, where she performed a medley of hits including “Lose Control,” “Get Ur Freak On” and “Work It.”
