Could Nicki Minaj or Drake join Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Barack Obama, and many other historic figures as Time magazine’s “Person of the Year”? The two YMCMB artists have been nominated for the prestigious honor in 2015.
POTY is given to the individual or group that has had the greatest impact on the world during that calendar year. The publication’s editors make the final decision, but Time is allowing the public to vote for a “Reader’s Choice” selection.
Nicki and Drake are among over 50 nominees competing in the voting process. The finalists also include world leaders such as President Obama, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Syrian President Bashar Assad. High-profile celebrities like Adele, Taylor Swift, Viola Davis, and Kim Kardashian West are on the list as well.
As of press time, Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is leading with the greatest percentage of votes (12.7%). Sanders is followed by Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai (4.9%), Pope Francis (3.7%), Barack Obama (3.5%) and The Late Show host Stephen Colbert (3.4%). Minaj currently stands at 1.3% and Drake has 1.1%.
Voting on the “Reader’s Choice” poll ends December 4 at 11:59 p.m., and the winner will be announced December 7. Time’s “Person of the Year” will be revealed on the Today Show on December 9. Cast your votes here.
