Common Signs HBO Television Deal

Common has signed a two-year first-look deal in television with HBO. Under the pact, the actor-musician will develop and HBO blue logoproduce projects for the premium cable network through his Freedom Road Productions alongside his manager/partner Derek Dudley and head of development and production Nicole Dow.

Common recently received his first scripted pilot order as a producer at Showtime for a Chicago-set drama from writer Lena Waithe. As an actor, Common — who won an Oscar this year for co-writing the song “Glory” from Selma, in which he also co-starred — will next be seen in the features Barbershop 3, Suicide Squad, Coco, Being Charlie and Hunter Killer. He also plays the gatekeeper of Oz in NBC’s upcoming The Wiz Live!
