The Roots Become Philadelphia Walk Of Fame Honorees

The Roots are the most beloved group in hip-hop and the beacon of the Philadelphia music community. Now the City of Brotherly Love is honoring the band with an induction into the Philadelphia Music Walk of Fame.

The house band for the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon will be enshrined on Oct. 26 along with jazz songbird Billie Holiday, Asleep at the Wheel frontman Ray Benson, veteran glam band Cinderella, disco group the Tramps, Broadway performer Andrea McArdle and legendary Philly radio personality Harvey Holiday.

Organizers also announced that after the induction ceremony, a celebratory gala will be held at the new Fillmore Philadelphia venue.

This is an incredible honor for the Roots, who have been repping Philly since their major label debut album, Do You Want More?!!!??!, in 1995.

The Walk of Fame announcement comes as the Grammy Award-winning group will perform at their 8th annual Roots Picnic at Philadelphia’s Festival Pier on Saturday (May 30). Erykah Badu (backed by the Illadelph band), the Weekend and A$AP Rocky are among the headliners for the sold-out event.

Congratulations to the Roots on their Walk of Fame honor. It’s well-deserved.
