Brooklyn Artist Paints Beastie Boys Mural In LES

The community in New York City’s Lower East Side neighborhood were against the intersection of Ludlow and Rivington streets being renamed after the Beastie Boys. But thanks to Brooklyn-based artist Danielle Mastrion, Mike D, MCA, and Ad-Rock’s images can now be seen on the corner of the aforementioned the streets.

This artistic commemoration is no coincidence, as it coincided with the 25th anniversary of the Beasties’ 1989 classic LP, Paul’s Boutique. Mastrion spray painted her piece on the very same building that appears on the album artwork. Completed in one day’s time, the mural was commissioned by LeRoy McCarthy, who has sat a the helm of several successful campaigns to rename hip-hop landmarks throughout the Big Apple.
