Nas Brings Hip-Hop Education to Harvard. Hip-Hop is Alive and It’s Changing Lives (Video)
Ammunition’s new series, By Design, takes a compelling look at
Harvard University’s Nasir Jones Fellowship. The fellowship’s namesake, Nas,
explains his role and activism and punfully says that Hip-Hop needs a countering
“slow-down period” to the “fast life” (a single Nas appeared on with Kool G
Rap almost 20 years ago). Harvard professor Dr. Henry Louis Gates stresses the
entrepreneurial lessons within Hip-Hop. Meanwhile, former Def Jux artist, and
Perceptionists member Akrobatik, a Boston MC, applies for the fellowship, as
the vignette shows his own Hip-Hop teachings.
